Yard Maintenance 101

If you’ve moved into a home with a new yard, you must be excited with all the plans for gardening and outdoor décor. But before you begin, you must know that it’s not always easy to be on top of yard maintenance. However, with a few tricks and tactics up your sleeve, you can make the right calls at the right time.

Here’s our detailed guide on yard maintenance to get you started on the right track.

Tear Down The Old And Dingy Shed

If you’ve got an insect and moss-ridden shed in your backyard, you need to have it torn down so that harmful critters don’t take residence. This can be dangerous for your pets and your children. You can use a shed demolition service in your local area to ensure the job is done properly and no one gets injured in the process. You can also ask the service company to remove all the waste material, the debris in the yard, and the broken shed.

Mow The Lawn

Now that you’ve cleared up all the debris, you can start grooming the lawn in your backyard. However, you should avoid mowing your grass when it’s wet or dark outside. Also, make sure you don’t get the grass too short. If you’ve got Bermuda grass, you should keep at least 2 inches and for Fescue consider 3 inches. Just remember to keep your mower’s blades sharp and mow your lawn in a different direction each time.

Weeding, Watering, And Fertilizing

Your grass gets thirsty too and needs water to grow. You should ideally water your grass between 5 am and 9 am. Also, don’t drown your grass; it can develop diseases. Ideally, in the summer, you should water your grass 2-3 times a week with just enough water to soak in the roots. You’ll also need to fertilize your grass. Based on the type of grass, research the best fertilizers and feed your lawn throughout the summer. Last, but not least, take out the weeds. You can spray herbicides or take them out by hand if you like the exercise.
